Shotts, Bearsden & NI

Sorry I havent kept this updated folks... Anyway heres the summaries from each...

Shotts
This was a wet day for all, and it was the second time of the year where the big band were playing up in g1, and they had their title to defend! The wee band were on first as the big band were doing a parade through the streets, lucky them!!! The band thought they played okay, but thought it could have been better. Despite this they attained themselves 4th place, so well done to them! The big band however felt that they did not have a good run, and in g2 they attained 7th place and in g1 they attained 4th place. We left wit a disheartened feeling, but awaiting the next contest... Bearsden!

Bearsden
This was a better competition for all; both weather wise and results wise. After a good performance by the wee band, they attained themselves 1st place in g4 and 3rd place in g3; both of these results were for the second year running, so well done to them. Also they received 1st in drumming, which was a confidence booster! It has now been noted though that the wee band win stuff when Davey "The King" Hutton take them on, time to move over paul!! The big band came 6th in the medley competition and 4th in the MSR. Prizes for all!

The British Championships, Banbridge - Northern Ireland
What a weekend, well for the banter anyway! Both bands went to NI with high hopes, but these were not met. In the morning qualifier the wee band had a good run, and felt sure they had qualified, Qualify they did, but only by the skin of their teeth. They went on to play in the final, but they did not play well enough to continue their success from dumbarton! Roll on the Europeans! The big band thought that they had a good run (except a small mistake in the reel by the drummers) but the judges did not agree with them. No rpize was awarded to them either! Oh well, theres always next year...

The Band has a YouTube Channel!

The Band has now entered the 21st Century! In order to find all of the bands videos in one place, please see the bands New YouTube Page! All videos of the band which are available on YouTube have been favourited, and hopefully if myself or Mark get any footage of the band - we will upload it straight to the page. If anyone has any videos which they think should be uploaded to the page, please give them to me at practise on either a disc or memory stick! Memory sticks will be returned! Videos must be in .wmv format or similar! Aslong as theyve been taken from a camera, they should be okay.

The url for the page is listed below!

The Bands are at Bathgate!

Yesterday (Saturday 30th May) saw the third competition of the year for Denny, it was Bathgate. The weather was sun, sun and more sun all day! We arrived at the car park in Bathgate at 10am to allow the "wee band" time to tune up (and despite some people sleeping in... we even made it there for roughly that time!) The wee band tuned up and thought they were sounding quite good, they made their way down to the competition field in high hopes! They went on to the field playing their set of 4/4 marches for the first time this year. Evveryone thought they played these tunes quite well, and were all in high hopes for the results.

The grade 2 band arrived at 12pm to tune up, and tune up they did! After a session in the car park they made their way down to the competition field to compete. They went on playing their medley and they thought they had a decent performance. After their grade 2 performance, the big band played up in to Grade 1 against Boghall, torphichen and Lothian and Borders police. They felt that this performance wasn't as good as their Grade 2 Performance, but they all thought they had a decent attempt!

At the end of the day, no band won any prizes despite the high hopes for the grade 4 band. It now has to be decided whether or not they will attempt to use the 4/4 marches in competition again, since all of the bands in the grade all played 2/4s! Decisions, Decisions, Decisions...

For videos of the Grade 2 band, please see the bands YouTube Channel!

The next competition for both bands is Shotts, which will take place next week on Saturday the 6th of June, good luck to both bands - and lets hope the big band can retain their Grade 1 Title!

First Major of the Year - Success at Dumbarton!

Well the season has now officially started, with both bands taking part in the 100 Pipers Scottish Pipe Band Championships which was held in Dumbarton. The weather for the day was... inconsistant throughout the day! We started off with sun, then it rained - then it was sun again, and then it rained again! The "wee band" were first up to play in the morning, and although they played 2nd in their heat they still managed to qualify! After their qualifying success - they went on to the final and played first, they put on a good performance and this was noted by the judges! The "Big band" had a good run at their medley and everyone felt they played very well - even if it was a "tad" fast!

At the end of the day, the wee band placed 4th over all - which is the best they have ever done at any Major competition, so well done to them, and lets hope this is the start of something good! Sadly however, the big band failed to place, but everyone was happy with their performance!

The next competition for both bands will be Bathgate. Good luck to both bands, and lets hope the success continues!

New Band Sponsor!

The band is pleased to announce a new sponsorship deal starting in May 2009.  Following a few appearances at the prestigious venue, the band will be sponsored by the world-famous Gleneagles Hotel, in a deal that the band hopes to continue for years to come.

The deal includes appearances at the hotel, as well as a welcome boost to the band funds, helping to finance the trip to Northern Ireland in June, kitting out new players, and purchasing new drums.

The grade 2 band will carry the name "Denny and Dunipace Gleneagles" for competition and appearance purposes.  The benefit of the sponsorship will however, affect all DDPB players, irresepective of grade.

Many thanks to Gleneagles for this immense opportunity!

First competition of the year for Denny!

Yesterday (Sat 9th May) saw the very first outdoor competition of the year for Denny. The Grade 4 band - under Pipe Major Paul Chalmers and new Leading Drummer Stephen Drummond - braved the weather conditions at Dunbar. They were playing first but they were about the only band who got good playing conditions! Overall the band played well, and the sound held under the conditions. At the end of the day they placed 8th out of 25 which is a good start to the season for the "wee band". The big band was supposed to play on the Sunday at Gourock but the competition was cancelled due to weather circumstances.

The next competition for both bands is next week at the Scottish Championships in Dumbarton! Good luck to both bands!
